Dentistry 101

It was dentist time today! With the princess when it came time for the dentist we called up a family friend and she has been seeing Mrs. Dacia ever since.  With Little Man we felt like we needed to go a different direction so with a recommendation in hand we made an appointment with a pediatric dentist.  They were wonderful and scheduled him for a time that no one else was in the office which was an answer to prayer for us.

Unfortunately there are no pictures to document Little Man's first visit to the dentist.  Nothing like these cutie's from almost SEVEN years ago!

It's hard to snap photos when you are laying back in the chair attempting to hold down 35 pounds of brute energy that just wants out! But, with legs wrapped around his, one arm wrapped around his chest and an empty hand holding his head down we got through our first dental appointment.  (It was a great ab workout!)

I know that sounds like torture and a visit that went terrible, but it was actually an amazing victory.  A year ago we would have never been able to tackle this day.  Little Man climbed willingly into the chair, he willingly touched all kinds of new "toys' and he listened to new sounds.  Then things fell apart somewhat as he decided that he was done.  But we trudged on and he got his teeth polished and flossed without even a hint at gagging.  Every time the tools or the fingers would go into his mouth I would flinch waiting for the gagging and vomiting, but NONE!

We've seen small signs along the way that Little Man is adapting, but this was huge sign that he is improving especially in his oral senses. As soon as Ms. Penny was done he slid out of the chair and hit the prize box with his tears forgotten. For the first couple of hours after his appointment he was pretty proud of his shiny teeth and would randomly open up wide to show me.  But on the flip side he would also randomly ask me through out the afternoon if we could be all done with the dentist.

All in all, tears aside, this was a victory day.
